Hawaii Kona Maragoype Aloha Hills Farm
Kona Hawaii is the only American grown coffee, and coffee connoisseurs recognize 100% Kona Coffee as not "just" coffee. Kona Coffee has a rich story, produced under the afternoon clouds shading the coffee trees on the slopes of the Hualalai and Mauna Loa. This unique environment brings Kona coffee a unique flavor profile, unmatchable sweetness, and delicate floral notes. After Kona's dry winters, the rain turns the coffee trees into beautiful flowering bushes with invading jasmine scent …when autumn comes, the cherries that replaced the flowers are mature, and harvest begins. Only coffee grown in the North and South districts of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii can be called Kona Coffee.
What is unique about this lot?
The Arabica varietal Maragogype!!! A Mutant of the Typica variety that produces the giant beans of any Coffee variety. Maragogype is uncommon in most countries due to its low productivity, but the cup is fantastic.
Aloha Hills Farm
Only a handful of farms in Hawaii are growing this variety, and most only with a few trees. Aloha Hills is one of the few that cultivates it. More than ten years ago, they accidentally planted a couple of acres of this coffee, thinking the seed they had was typical. He didn't realize the mistake until the trees matured. They showed the coffee to Miguel Meza, a world expert in the area, a decade ago. He was impressed by the quality and encouraged them to keep the field and harvest it separately rather than replant it with Typica.

Top grades include extra fancy, fancy, No.1, and prime. The quality is a function of the size of the beans; it happens that a height can be superior in taste sometimes; at Roasting Plant, we cup blind to select for our customers the best tasting one regardless of the size; this lot just happened to be a giant size with an excellent taste!
