The AeroPress was created by Stanford University engineering instructor, Alan Adler. Having launched the record-breaking Aerobie flying ring in 1985, his company was well known - but for sports toys as opposed to kitchen equipment. The AeroPress coffee maker is a new kind of coffee press that brews coffee under ideal conditions: proper temperature, total immersion and rapid filtering. This results in amazingly delicious coffee with a wide range of beautiful flavours, but with very low acidity.
What you'll need
- Aeropress filters
- AeroPress funnel
- Digital Scale
- Stirring tool
- Coffee cup or other vessel
Brew time: 2:45-3:00 minutes
Dose: 13 grams
Grind: Like very fine table salt
Place the paper filter into the Aeropress lid. Rinse filter over carafe and set aside. Discard water in carafe.
Connect the 2 Aeropress pieces, and position upside down.
Add 13 grams of freshly ground RP coffee into the open chamber.
Start timer. Add twice the weight of water than you have grounds (e.g., for 15 grams coffee, add 30 grams water). The water should be about 200 degrees F.
Place the lid with filter on the Aeropress and seal.
At 2:30 carefully flip the Aeropress and place on your carafe. Gently press down. Stop plunging before hearing hissing sound.
Add any extra amount of water (according to your desired strength). Enjoy your just-roasted RP coffee!
